Refrigeration compressor current instability fault causes and solutions

Oct. 30, 2024

The refrigeration compressor is the core component of the air conditioning and refrigeration system, and the stability of its current directly affects the operational efficiency and stability of the entire system. However, in practical applications, the problem of unstable refrigeration compressor current occurs from time to time. In this paper, we will discuss the causes of this problem and propose corresponding solutions.

Failure causes

1, unstable supply voltage: when the industrial voltage is unstable, the current of the compressor will also fluctuate. The compressor needs a stable voltage to ensure normal operation when starting and running.

2, line load is too large: if the line of the power supply load is too large, it will lead to a higher line current, which in turn affects the stability of the compressor current.

3, condenser overheating: the condenser is used for heat dissipation, if its surface is covered with dust or debris, or internal failure, it will lead to overheating, which will make the compressor current rise.

4Low pressure on the low pressure side: when the pressure on the low pressure side is too low, the compressor needs to consume more energy to inhale the refrigerant, resulting in higher current.

5, compressor internal failure: compressor internal electromagnetic clutch damage, motor failure or wear and tear, etc., will lead to current fluctuations.

6, thermal relay failure: thermal relay is used to protect the circuit, if its own damage, will not be able to accurately detect the current, resulting in compressor overload.

7, AC contactor problem: AC contactor is an important part of the control of the compressor start and stop, if its contacts corrosion or loose, will affect the normal flow of current.

8, insufficient refrigerant: refrigerant circulates in the air-conditioning system, if the refrigerant is insufficient, it will affect the refrigeration effect and efficiency of the compressor, which will lead to unstable current.

Solutions

1, stabilise the supply voltage: use over-voltage protection devices and under-voltage protection devices to ensure that the supply voltage of the compressor is within the rated range.

2Adjust the line load: Reasonably adjust the line load, or increase the capacity of the line circuit breaker to avoid line overload.

Clean and maintain the condenser: clean the surface of the condenser regularly to ensure that it dissipates heat well and avoid overheating.

3Check the pressure on the low pressure side: check the pressure on the low pressure side regularly to ensure that it is within the normal range, and adjust it if necessary.

4, overhaul the compressor internal: for compressor internal failure, should be timely overhaul or replacement of faulty parts, to ensure that the compressor works properly.

5, replace the thermal relay: if the thermal relay is damaged, it should be replaced in time to ensure the safe operation of the circuit.

6Check and replace the AC contactor: regularly check the contacts of the AC contactor, if there is any ablation or looseness, it should be replaced in time.

7Refrigerant replenishment: check the amount of refrigerant regularly, if it is insufficient, it should be replenished in time to ensure the normal operation of the refrigeration system.
